Projet de Danse à Bohol aux Philippines

Rain Drop is starting a new cultural project !

In our wish to promote cultural diversity and international exchange, we are implementing an advanced danse workshop for young underprivileged dancers of the Bohol island in the Philippines.

In March 2014 chorographers Guillaume Morgan and Nicola Ayoub, the project initiators, were in an artistic residency in Manila, Philippines. Guillaume taught and choreographed for 30 young dancers. Nicola assisted him and performed her one-woman show throughout the city with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Manila. It was at this time that they met Lutgardo Labad, director of Teatro Bol-Anon (Bohol). He invited them to Tagbilaran (Bohol) to meet the island’s young dancers for a day of showcase and exchange (March 23, 2014).

Guillaume and Nicola were deeply touched by their visceral need to dance to live, to express their pains and joys through movement. During the conversation, the Bohol dancers expressed their hopes, dreams, needs, frustrations, and lack of dance schools. Most importantly they talked of their passion to dance. The dancers and Lutgardo Labad requested that Guillaume and Nicola come back in 2015 to lead an intensive workshop. Back in Paris Guillaume and Nicola reflected on the best way to answer the needs of these young Bohol artists. They realize that these dancers do not have the economic means to train or to perfect their art. Impossible to go to Manila for professional training, the dancers regret that teachers do not come to them on the island. However, their artistic potential is unquestionable. There is talent and enthusiasm. As a response Guillaume and Nicola will organise from the 20th april to the 3rd may 2015, an intensive and interdisciplinary program encompassing dance in all its dimensions. This program will be the 1st International Dance Workshop in Bohol.
